Shipping
There are two choices for shipping birds to the U.S. The most economical is the U.S. Post Office's Express Mail service, which typically costs around $30.00. In our experience the birds have arrived within 24 hours with no problems. We can deliver the birds to the USPS for you without any delivery charge if your order is at least $200.00. For smaller orders there will be a $20.00 delivery charge.
The other choice is airfreight, which costs around $100.00. This is the safest way to ship, especially if you use the counter-to-counter service. We can deliver the birds to either the Vancouver, BC or Seattle, WA airport and you can meet them at your local airport. The birds are on their own only for the duration of the flight which in most cases is only a few hours. There will be a delivery charge of $60.00 if you choose the Seattle airport. There is no delivery charge to the Vancouver airport if your order is at least $200.00. For smaller orders going through Vancouver there will be a $20.00 delivery charge.
Birds going to a Canadian destination must go airfreight. The good news is that shipping rates in Canada are more reasonable than in the US. I have shipped birds for as little as $30.00. There is no delivery charge to the Vancouver airport for a Canadian destination.
If you decide to use airfreight you should contact the airline and make the arrangements yourself, including making arrangements for paying the airline directly.
The type of shipping containers will depend on the shipping method chosen and the number of birds being shipped.
If USPS ships the birds we recommend using Horizon's biologically secure shipping containers, designed specifically for the USPS Express Mail.

Horizon's 'Mini Nest', pictured here, is designed specifically for perching birds. It is the only container that comes equipped with built in perches. It also has two compartments so that males can be separated. Each compartment could easily accommodate several canaries. Food and moisture cups are built in. Side loading doors make it easy to move the birds in and out of each compartment. Dimensions are 16" x 16" x 16". The cost for the 'Mini Nest' is $16 plus shipping.
We guarantee that our birds are in good health when they leave our aviary and are delivered to the airport or the USPS. However, once they leave our care they are at the buyer's risk. We take great care to ensure that the birds will arrive safely but we do not have any control over what happens to them after they leave our possession.
Sometimes we need to buy birds from another breeder to fill an order. We will only do so with the buyer's prior knowledge and consent. We will only buy birds that appear to be healthy, but since these birds are not part of our flock we cannot guarantee their health. Such birds will be at the buyer's risk while they are in our care.
The buyer is responsible for all costs incurred in clearing customs and in shipping. We will provide our best estimate of the costs involved but these costs are beyond our control and we cannot guarantee what the final costs will be.
